Student Leadership

Student Leadership at Killester is based upon a service model. The students elect a Year 11 and 12 leader of each of five committees. These leaders have defined roles and carry out designated functions on behalf of the student body. The ten student leaders form the Student Leadership Team for the school. Each of the 5 committees has 2 representatives each from levels 7 - 10.

  • The Year 11 and 12 Leaders meet regularly, to review and plan with the Student Development Co-ordinator to review and plan whole school activities.
  • Staff volunteers attend all committee meetings to provide support and advice.
  • Recommendations from student committees are taken to the Principal and various Co-ordinating Teams.
  • Students develop communication through use of their notice board, staff and student meetings and maintaining files. Decisions are based on a consensus model.
  • All leadership groups at Killester emphasise leadership through collaboration with fellow students.

The role the of Student Council committee is to listen to the ideas and suggestions of students on how to improve the school and assist the Killester Community. Using these ideas, we aim to make things happen and try our best to do so.

We aim to get as many ideas acted upon as soon as possible. We want to be able to make a difference in order to provide a better learning environment for all students. This year, the Student Council Committee aims to introduce Killester Carry "Tote" Bags for students to carry their books between classes.

It's important to be "big picture" aware. It is important to raise an
opinion or voice your ideas particularly if you are not happy with something or want to make a difference. Only then, can you make things happen. We encourage all students to feed back their thoughts and opinions to their Year Level Representatives. Everyone is welcome to attend our meetings every Tuesday.

Our message to all is to participate in activities around the school and within the community. Each little bit counts and a person's best is always enough.

The Year 11 and 12 Leaders, elected House Captains and level representatives work with students to develop the school sports program.

One of our major roles as sports leaders is to organise and co-ordinate weekly meetings. In these we develop ideas with the year level sport representatives for ways in which we can improve Killester's sporting environment. We help organise activities that take place such as major school events like the swimming and athletics carnival, and Brigidine day.

This year we aim:

  • To increase interest in sports by using staff vs student matches and lunch time sports.
  • To try to initiate a new variety of interschool sports.

Arts Committee

Miriam & Tran Miriam Deliva and Tran Nguyen, Arts Committee

The Arts Committee is all about promoting the Arts within the school. The Arts relates to Music, Drama and Art.

Our goals for the year include promoting the Arts in variety of ways. For instance Term 1, we focussed on Drama, Term 2 we are focusing on music and Term 3 will be a collaboration from all three faculties. With Art being our prime focus for Term 4.

We work hard and have fun and have achieved great success in reaching our goals thus far.

Towards the end of Term 1 we had our Arts week and we not only promoted the Arts but were also able to showcase the flair of talent the Killester Community had to offer. Leading up to our week we led drama workshops to give the students an idea of what it is like to do drama. And in our Arts week we showcased the dramatic potential the girls were able to attain. It was a great sucess as many girls came and enjoyed the show and those who took part loved the experience. Alll in all we hope to preserve the energy and creativity within our Killester Community whilst learning along the way.
